ATTEND THE NEXT TELECONFERENCE FOR NOTARIES

On October 6 and October 7, 2004 Annie Mae provided notaries with the ability to attend a teleconference of which I explained how the Bankruptcy Forms Processing business operates. In addition, Gary Drury of Annie Mae provided notaries with an outline of a network his company is building for bankruptcy forms processors.

I bet most of you did not know that the notary signing agent business was an idea originally conceived by a notary public in Colorado. This idea caught the interest of the NNA who purchased the company and developed it into the thriving tool SigningAgent.Com is known for today.

The bankruptcy forms processing business is similar in nature. However, Annie Mae wants to avoid some of the problems the notary signing agent field has suffered in structuring its network. These problems include low pay for the notary as well as the risk of not being paid at all. Annie Mae’s network is being structured so that forms processors will operate as a group – not as individual notaries like the signing agent business is structured now. (This does not apply to notaries who work on their own directly for mortgage and title companies and earn $200 or more per signing.)

Due to the popularity of these past three teleconferences, Gary Drury has asked me to do several more. Therefore, we have scheduled three teleconferences for the coming week and invite you to attend one of them.

To register online and get the benefit of interacting with other meeting attendees through the internet, do the following:

1. Go to http://www.anniemae.org/index.cfm?id=10018
2. Click on MEETING (top of screen)
3. Click on REGISTER
4. Type your email address in the box and click on SUBMIT

If you are not a member of Annie Mae you will be taken to a sign-up screen to enter your information. You can join Annie Mae or request a free meeting registration only.

If you are a member of Annie Mae, you will be taken to the page listing the different teleconferences. Click on the REGISTER link beside the conference you wish to attend.

You also can attend by calling a telephone number and entering the meeting code, which are provided when you register at the Annie Mae website. You may not be able to interact with others on the internet, but you will obtain some valuable information just by listening in on a meeting

FIRST FORMS PROCESSOR TELECONFERENCE TRAINING

The first Member’s Only training for bankruptcy forms processors has been scheduled for October 15, 2004 at 7:00pm (Mountain), 8:00 (Central) or 9:00pm (Eastern.) In this training demonstration I will complete the first two pages of the Voluntary Petition of the bankruptcy petition, explaining how to enter each piece of information properly. We will also cover the difference between state and federal exemptions and the purpose of how attorneys use them to benefit the client.

Although the meeting free, you must be a member of Annie Mae to attend AND you must have purchased a copy of the book How to Start a Bankruptcy Forms Processing Service which you can get at http://www.bankruptcybook.net

We are requiring the purchase of the book because it serves as the official training manual for this section of Annie Mae’s program. Everyone attending the training will therefore have obtained a basic knowledge so we do not need to cover the information already provided in the book.

EMAILS AND QUESTIONS FROM NOTARIES

Dear Victoria. I know you have been promoting the bankruptcy forms processing business. Is this because you think the notary signing agent business is going out? (A.P.)

RESPONSE FROM VICTORIA RING

Of course not! The notary signing agent field is still a fantastic way to make money. However, the amount of work in this field fluctuates from week to week depending on the stock market, the Presidential election and changes in the interest rates. Bankruptcy filings on the other hand are not fluctuating. For the past 3 years they have been rising at astronomical rates, creating a great need for petition preparers.

I believe that every notary signing agent needs to supplement their income so that when the interest rates are up (and signing appointments have dropped), they have other avenues available to them for making money in order to maintain a consistent income. Some notaries choose to add title abstracting services to their business. Others make extra money during the lean times doing drive-by home inspections. You will need to decide if processing bankruptcy forms is something you would enjoy doing – which is why I am actively participating in the free meetings to explain the process and answer any questions free and without any obligation.

Annie Mae also continues to hold teleconferences for notary signing agents. If you are not interested in processing bankruptcy forms, please sign up and attend the other meetings which cover a variety of topics.

That would be an impossible question for anyone to answer truthfully. If you want me to be like an infomercial and tell you that within 30 days you are going to make a million dollars, I won’t stoop to those measures and lie.

You need to research the field and get as much information as you can about the business. Only then can you make up your own mind as to whether you see the income potential or not. I cannot make that decision for you.

HI Victoria. In response to the notary who received the bad check:

I am a member of the BBB (the membership it a bit expensive, but I think it is absolutely worth it.) One of the benefits of memberships is that they have free bad check collection. If you are a member, you send them the bad check (or the bank can send it directly) within 30 days, and they will work to get your money. They charge their processing fee to the check writer. There is a set-up fee (which may or may not be waived), but given today's financial climate, it's a great investment.

The only problem with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) is that they charge exhorbant fees to be a member. Their organization is not structured for the business person but rather as an organization for the general public. If you only need help with collecting bad checks you can hire a collector for much less money than joining the BBB. In addition, collectors normally only charge you if they collect the debt. The BBB will charge you a large yearly fee whether you use their services or not plus charge you additional money if you do decide to use their services. In my own personal opinion, I never received any benefit when I joined the BBB several years ago. I cancelled my membership after the first year and noticed no difference in the business income.
